Paso Robles students honored for powerful essays on impactful educators

    – The San Luis Obispo County Association of California School Administrators (ACSA SLO County Charter) has announced the winners of its annual high school essay contest, which invited students to reflect on an educator who made a significant difference in their lives. This year’s contest featured an impressive collection of heartfelt submissions, with three exceptional essays coming from Paso Robles High School.

The winning essays highlighted the profound impact that educators have on students, emphasizing the importance of belief, inspiration, and mentorship. Each student effectively expressed how their chosen educator fostered their growth and shaped their future.

The 2025 ACSA SLO County Essay Contest Winners:

    • First Place: Adane Siegrist, Paso Robles High School, for his essay about middle school teacher Edwin Martinez of Lewis Flamson Junior High. Siegrist’s essay, which has been forwarded for consideration at a regional level, showcased Martinez’s ability to inspire self-belief and serve as a role model for all students.

    • Second Place: Michelle Santiago, Paso Robles High School, for her essay about middle school teacher Alexandra Huggins of Lewis Flamson Junior High.

    • Third Place: Shekhinah Braly, Paso Robles High School, for her essay about current English teacher Carrie Baldovin.

Siegrist’s essay, which earned the top honor, particularly resonated with the selection committee. His touching portrayal of Edwin Martinez illustrated the lasting influence of an educator who believes in their students. “When I speak to him I feel my eyes are opened up to the world around me. The lasting influence he has had on me is the drive to be the best student and person I can be,” Siegrist wrote in his essay.

“We are incredibly proud of all the students who participated in this contest,” said Jen Gaviola, SLO Charter ACSA President. “Their essays are a testament to the dedication and impact of educators across San Luis Obispo County. Adane Siegrist’s essay, in particular, is a powerful reminder of the lasting difference a truly inspiring teacher can make.”

SLO Charter ACSA congratulates Adane Siegrist, Michelle Santiago, and Shekhinah Braly on their outstanding achievements and extends its gratitude to all educators who continue to shape the lives of students in San Luis Obispo County.
