    Paso Robles SafetyFest returns June 7 

    Attendees can participate in safety demonstrations and view professional exhibits

    Event will feature training on wildfire, earthquake, flood, tsunami, crime prevention, motor vehicle safety, cybersecurity, mental health, and personal safety

    – The Fourth Annual SafetyFest will take place Saturday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Downtown City Park, offering emergency and disaster preparedness training, hands-on activities, and demonstrations from city, county, state, and federal responders, as well as private safety professionals.

    Presented by the City of Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services, Police Department, the Paso Robles Community Emergency Response Team, and PASOSafe, the event will feature training on wildfire, earthquake, flood, tsunami, crime prevention, motor vehicle safety, cybersecurity, mental health, and personal safety.

    “SafetyFest is a fun and engaging way to bring everyone in the community to learn and participate,” said Ross Porter, fire captain and paramedic with Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services. “Each year we expand our educational and training exercises for all aspects of fire prevention, emergency and disaster preparation and response,” he said.

    Proceeds from the event support the Paso Robles Community Emergency Response Team, a program sponsored by the City of Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services and part of the San Luis Obispo County Community Emergency Response Team. The team trains volunteers in disaster preparedness and basic emergency response skills.

    “This event helps Paso Robles CERT expand our training classes and increase our base of volunteers trained to assist in an emergency,” said John Spooner, program director of San Luis Obispo County Community Emergency Response Team. “This year, we will provide additional disaster preparedness training for the public. In addition to the 20-hour CERT Basic training classes, we will offer pet safety and other specialty emergency and disaster training,” he said.

    Spooner added that due to devastating wildfires throughout California, the team is expanding its membership and resources. “We are increasing the number of qualified team members. This will require the purchase of additional equipment, more supplemental training classes, and additional certified instructors,” he said.

    Safety-related organizations and businesses are encouraged to apply for exhibit space. Exhibit spaces are available in the park for $100. Nonprofit organizations may apply for a $50 space.     SafetyFest is presented by the City of Paso Robles, Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services, the Paso Robles Police Department, the Paso Robles Community Emergency Response Team, and PASOSafe.
