Local students earn 11 medals at California SkillsUSA Conference

Gold medalists to represent Paso Robles in Atlanta this June
– Paso Robles High School’s SkillsUSA Chapter 211 earned 11 medals at the 58th annual California SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference held in Ontario.
Fifty-five students from Paso Robles High School participated in 20 contests at the event, which took place as part of the statewide conference in 2025. The students were supported by seven advisors: Bartt Frey, Greg Boswell, Marc Dart, Brenda Matthysse, Jenny Martinez, Shelby LaMendola and Steven Matthews.
SkillsUSA is a national career and technical student organization that serves more than 395,000 high school, college, and middle school students, along with professional members in skilled service occupations. Leading up to the state competition, Paso Robles students prepared through mentorship from teachers and local industry professionals. Preparation also included participation in a regional conference held in January and February, which featured 83 students competing in virtual events.

Four students—Frida Bejar Rico, Kyle Dart, Patrick Malufau, and Asyel Mendoza—qualified to represent Paso Robles High School at the national SkillsUSA competition, scheduled for June in Atlanta. They will compete in aviation maintenance technology, computer programming, job interview, and telecommunications cabling.
Students competed in written tests, oral interviews, hands-on tests, and demonstrations. Funding for the SkillsUSA program comes from local business and industry partners, individual community contributions, and state career technical education funds.
