Yachtley Crew, a seven-member band from Southern California, rose to popularity after debuting on the club scene in 2017 and has since become known as a leading act in the resurgence of Yacht Rock. The group features lead vocalist Phillip Daniel (Philly Ocean), drummer Rob Jones (Sailor Hawkins), bassist Chaz Ruiz (Baba Buoy), guitarist Thomas Gardner Jr. (Tommy Buoy), backing vocalist Curt Clendenin (Stoney Shores), saxophone and flute player Paul Pate (Pauly Shores), and keyboardist Matt Grossman (Matthew McDonald).
The band is known for performing soft rock and Top 40 hits from the late 1970s and early 1980s. Songs on their 2023 album Seas the Day include covers of Boz Scaggs’ “Lido Shuffle,” Ace’s “How Long,” Robbie Dupree’s “Steal Away,” the Bee Gees’ “How Deep Is Your Love,” and Christopher Cross’s “Ride Like the Wind.” Their live performances also feature songs such as Toto’s “Africa,” Looking Glass’ “Brandy,” and Rupert Holmes’ “Escape (The Piña Colada Song).”
Yachtley Crew has appeared on HBO’s Yacht Rock: A Dockumentary, Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, KLAS and KTLA’s Las Vegas Countdown to 2023, and has performed on numerous morning television and radio programs. The band was the first Yacht Rock group to perform live on SiriusXM’s Yacht Rock Radio show “Yacht Rock 311.” Additional appearances include performances at the Mario Lopez Golf Classic Tournament supporting Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center and other charity events.
The band has stated that they look forward to continuing to perform both classic and newer soft rock songs throughout the rest of the year.
