Local humane society receives $12,500 grant to support efforts
Funding to aid adoption, shelter, and medical care for pets
– Woods Humane Society will receive a $12,500 grant from national nonprofit Petco Love to support its work for pets in San Luis Obispo County.
Petco Love, founded in 1999, has invested nearly $410 million in adoption and other pet welfare efforts. The nonprofit partners with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations across North America to support pet adoption and other programs. Nearly 7 million pets have been adopted through these partnerships.
“Our investment in Woods Humane Society is part of more than $12 million in investments recently announced by Petco Love to power local organizations across the country as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only part of our strategy to empower animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us. We launched Petco Love Lost, a free national lost and found database that uses photo-matching technology to simplify the search for lost pets.”
“We are so grateful for this crucial investment from Petco Love, which will make a difference for so many local dogs and cats in need of food, shelter, medical care, and adoption services,” said Woods Humane Society CEO Emily L’Heureux. “During this record-breaking season of kittens and puppies and when so many young, fragile pets require lengthy care and critical medical services, this will truly be a lifesaving investment.”
Woods Humane Society operates two adoption facilities and public spay and neuter clinics in San Luis Obispo and Atascadero. The organization places up to 3,000 pets for adoption in a typical year and provides a range of services including affordable spay and neuter services, dog obedience training classes, and a volunteer program. It also operates a pet pantry that distributes more than 12,000 pounds of free pet food to families in need, a foster program, and a humane education program for children.
Woods is located at 875 Oklahoma Avenue in San Luis Obispo and at 2300 Ramona Road in Atascadero. It is open to the public daily from 12 to 5 p.m., with adoption hours from 12 to 4 p.m.
