Update: Father on trial for murder now faces federal charges

    Update posted May 23:

Briant ReyesEstrada, 27, of Paso Robles

Briant ReyesEstrada, 27, of Paso Robles.

    – Federal authorities filed charges Wednesday against Briant ReyesEstrada, accusing him of fraud and misuse of visas, permits, and other documents, according to a report by KSBY.

The federal complaint reportedly alleges that ReyesEstrada was deported from the United States in 2022 and later returned unlawfully.

The federal case does not impact the ongoing local proceedings but includes an arrest warrant based on probable cause. The warrant requires that ReyesEstrada be detained if he posts bond, is acquitted and released, or completes a sentence in county or state custody.

Officials stated that even if ReyesEstrada were to post bond, the federal warrant would prevent his release until the separate federal matter is resolved.

Father arrested after child dies at local hospital

    – Authorities are investigating the death of a 6-year-old boy who died Saturday evening after being taken to Twin Cities Hospital in Templeton.

At about 5:57 p.m. on May 10, the Paso Robles Police Department was notified by the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department about the child’s death. Officers responded to the hospital and began an investigation. Due to the nature of the incident, the Paso Robles Police Department Detective Bureau was called in to examine the circumstances.

According to the initial investigation, the child was transported to the hospital by his father, Briant ReyesEstrada, 27, of Paso Robles. Authorities suspect the child sustained life-threatening injuries, possibly heat-related, while inside a vehicle. Detectives believe ReyesEstrada’s vehicle may have been parked in the Paso Robles Inn parking lot for several hours prior to the incident.

ReyesEstrada was arrested on suspicion of murder and willful harm or injury to a child likely to produce great bodily injury. He was booked at the San Luis Obispo County Jail and is being held without bail.

The Paso Robles Police Department is working with other agencies to continue the investigation. Authorities are requesting anyone with information or anyone who was in the Paso Robles Inn parking lot on May 10, up until 3:40 p.m., to contact the Paso Robles Police Department at (805) 227-7455. Individuals wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers’ 24-hour hotline at (805) 549-7867 or text “SLOTIPS” plus a message to CRIMES (274637).

If this action (or inaction) by the father is proven true, then there is no place on this earth for him. Probably the best would be to lock him in a car for several hours when outside temp is almost 100 (inside temp probably above 120).
