Letter: Honoring an educational legend after 25 years of service
To the editor,
– It is with immense admiration and gratitude that we celebrate the career and legacy of Mr. Jeff Mount, who is leaving PRHS after an extraordinary 25 years of service at PRHS. Jeff has been more than a teacher—he has been a mentor, a leader, an innovator, and a true champion for students. His student alumnus attended the likes of : UCLA, Princeton, Berkeley, UC Davis, Boston University, Pepperdine, UCSD, UCSC, Tulane, Cal Poly, Santa Clara, William and Mary, and UCSB, to name a few.
Over the course of his distinguished career, Jeff has taught English, Journalism, and Career Technical Education (Arts, Media, and Entertainment) with a level of excellence and passion that has set him apart. His classrooms have always been vibrant spaces of critical thinking, creativity, and personal growth. Whether guiding students through literary analysis, writing instruction, or multimedia design, Jeff has consistently challenged and inspired them to reach their full potential.
Perhaps nowhere is Jeff’s impact more visible than in his role as Journalism advisor at Paso Robles High School. Under his leadership, the Crimson Newsmagazine has become a nationally recognized program, earning over 100 journalism awards, including three National First Place Best of Show honors in Newsmagazine and Website categories. These are not just awards—they are reflections of the empowerment and excellence he cultivated in his students, year after year.
Jeff’s influence has extended well beyond the classroom. I have had the honor of working alongside him professionally for many years, and I’ve also seen his profound impact as a parent. Both of my children were fortunate to have Jeff as their Honors English teacher and Journalism advisor. What they gained—confidence, voice, leadership, and a deep love of writing and storytelling—was transformative.
Jeff is known not only for his professional achievements but for his kindness, humility, and tireless dedication to his students and colleagues. He has inspired generations of learners, not just to write and think critically, but to stand tall, speak truth, and pursue excellence.
As he closes this chapter, we honor the hundreds of lives he has touched, the standards he has raised, and the legacy he leaves behind. Jeff, thank you for your years of unwavering service, for your wisdom, your heart, and your belief in what students can become.
You are a true legend, and your legacy will continue to shine in classrooms and newsrooms for years to come.
With deep respect and heartfelt appreciation,

I loved your letter, Jen! Well said! I am a retired second career teacher and had the honor to work with Mr. Mount as a para-educator while working on my teaching credential. His patience, expertise, professionalism, and kindness inspired his students and showed me what to strive for as a future educator. After becoming a teacher at PRHS, I enjoyed having conversations with him and watching his students thrive! If I was having a tough day, talking to him always put me back on track. I wish him an exciting and fulfilling retirement! ¡Felicidades, amigo!

As a teacher and parent of a student currently in Mount’s Journalism class, I can attest to the significant impact he has on students, especially for striving for excellence. I have known no other teacher who has as much positive impact on my son. I am so grateful for Mount’s ability to built camaraderie amongst his students, all striving for the greater good of research, truth, and excellence in journalism. I hope to someday have as much impact as Mount. He has forever positively touched the lives of so many people and in a way that will never leave them. It’s currently 5:30pm on a Friday afternoon and his students are STILL in his classroom, working on the next issue of the Crimson Newsmagazine. 📰
