Crews contain Salinas Riverbed vegetation fire
– Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services responded to a vegetation fire at approximately 4:50 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, in the Salinas Riverbed north of the Niblick Bridge, according to a press release.
The first unit on scene reported a fire covering about half an acre to the west of Wendy’s. Crews contained the fire at approximately three acres.
Fire personnel were able to safely engage the fire and protect nearby critical infrastructure, aided by recently grazed firebreaks in the area.
Three fire engines and three chief officers from Paso Robles responded. Under the city’s automatic and mutual aid agreements, five additional fire engines, one bulldozer, two hand crews, one battalion chief, and one air attack plane from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection in San Luis Obispo County and neighboring communities also responded.
A total of 65 firefighters contained the fire in less than an hour. The Paso Robles Police Department also responded to assist with traffic control and road closures.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
