Early-morning vegetation fire contained in riverbed
Fire started due to homeless activity, officials say
– Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services responded at 12:41 a.m. today to reports of a vegetation fire in the riverbed south of Highway 46 East.
Fire crews arrived within four minutes and found about one-quarter acre of trees and heavy brush burning. The fire was contained within 30 minutes, and crews fully extinguished it within three hours.
The response included three fire engines and one battalion chief from Paso Robles, along with two fire engines, one battalion chief and a bulldozer from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and San Luis Obispo County Fire Department under automatic aid agreements. A total of 20 firefighters were deployed. The Paso Robles Police Department provided traffic control.
Investigators determined the fire started due to homeless activity in the area. Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services urged residents to stay alert during the dry season and report any signs of smoke or fire immediately.
