School district honors volunteer with 'Key to the District'

Recognition was announced at the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner

    – The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District has awarded its Key to the District honor to Sayra Celis. The recognition was announced at the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner.

The Key to the District is an annual recognition established in the 2024-2025 school year. Each year, the district awards one Golden Plaque key to an individual or group. The Key to the District is the highest recognition the district gives to a volunteer or group of volunteers. It is awarded to an individual whose commitment, generosity, and service have made a significant and lasting impact on the schools, students and community.

According to the district, Celis serves as the English Learner Advisory Committee representative at Lewis Flamson Junior High School and the District English Learner Advisory Committee representative at Paso Robles High School.

The district stated, “Through her exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication, she has become a powerful advocate for students and parents across our community. As the ELAC representative at Lewis Flamson Junior High School and the DELAC representative at Paso Robles High School, Sayra goes above and beyond to connect families with vital resources and support. With a proactive spirit and a heartfelt approach, she fosters a welcoming and connected school community where everyone feels valued. Sayra’s passion for advocacy and collaboration is a driving force that makes a real, lasting difference in the lives of students and families alike. We are deeply grateful for her dedication and proud to honor her as Volunteer of the Year.”

Nominees for the award must demonstrate exceptional service through sustained and meaningful volunteerism that goes above and beyond expectations in support of students, staff or schools within the district. They must contribute to measurable or observable improvements in the school community, student well-being or educational environment. Nominees are also recognized for serving as role models through their actions, encouraging others to get involved and fostering collaboration and civic engagement.

The award reflects alignment with the district’s core values, including integrity, compassion, collaboration, innovation, and commitment to student success. Nominees may have years of dedicated service or a single extraordinary act that significantly benefited the district.
