Morro Bay Police arrest Bakersfield man with loaded gun and fentanyl
Police arrest man with prior felony during traffic stop
– Police arrested a Bakersfield man following a traffic stop on June 25 near Marina Street and Morro Avenue in Morro Bay.
At approximately 10:17 p.m., an officer with the Morro Bay Police Department stopped a vehicle for traffic violations and signs of possible driver impairment based on the observed driving pattern. The driver, identified by a California driver license as Sean Alexander Steele, 40, was the only occupant of the vehicle.
Upon contact, the officer saw a firearm in plain view below the steering column. Steele was removed from the vehicle and detained. A records check showed he is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
A consent search of Steele revealed suspected fentanyl on his person. The firearm was loaded with a round in the chamber and a full magazine inserted.
Police searched the vehicle and found live pistol and rifle ammunition, large-capacity rifle magazines loaded with ammunition, a large quantity of suspected fentanyl, and items consistent with narcotics sales. Officers also located burglary tools inside the vehicle.
Steele was booked at the San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of multiple violations, including being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a loaded firearm while transporting drugs, possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle, sales and transportation of fentanyl, possession of large-capacity magazines, possession of burglary tools, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a switchblade.
