State leaders join trades meeting at California Mid-State Fair today
Meeting is held in conjunction with the fair’s Daily Career Fair in the Stockyard Pavilion
– Congressman Jimmy Panetta, California State Senator John Laird and California State Treasurer Fiona Ma will speak at the Building Trades Informational Meeting on Friday, July 18, at 11 a.m. on the Headliner Stage at the California Mid-State Fair.
Now in its sixth year, the annual event is moving from its previous location in the Skybox to the Headliner Stage near the Stockyard Pavilion to accommodate increased attendance. The meeting is part of the fair’s partnership with the skilled trades community and is designed to connect students, job seekers and the public with career opportunities in high-demand fields.
Attendees will hear from Panetta, Laird, and Ma, as well as from representatives of Local 403 Plumbers, Pipefitters, Pipe Welders, and HVACR; Local 416 Iron Workers; IBEW Local 639; Cuesta College; and SLO Cal Careers. Speakers will discuss the demand for skilled tradespeople in San Luis Obispo County and how to begin a career in the trades.
The meeting is held in conjunction with the fair’s Daily Career Fair in the Stockyard Pavilion, which features career booths, employer meet-and-greets, and resources for attendees of all ages. The Career Fair runs Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday through Sunday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Intended attendees include elected officials, FFA and 4-H members, high school juniors and seniors, young adults ages 17 to 24, job seekers, and parents, counselors or educators involved in career planning.
