– A two-vehicle crash on Highway 46 East near McMillan Canyon Road resulted in multiple injuries on July 27, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers responded to the incident at approximately 1:42 p.m. and determined that a 17-year-old juvenile, identified as Party 1 (P-1), was driving a 1998 Lexus sedan northbound on West Centre Street at Highway 46 East. At the same time, Party 2 (P-2), identified by CHP as Lusk, an adult female, was driving a 2015 Toyota Highlander eastbound on Highway 46 East in the No. 1 lane at approximately 68 miles per hour, approaching West Centre Street.
For unknown reasons, P-1 drove the Lexus directly into the path of the Toyota. Both drivers were unable to avoid a collision, and the front of the Toyota struck the left side of the Lexus.
After the crash, the Toyota came to rest in the median separating westbound and eastbound traffic on Highway 46 East. The Lexus came to rest on the right shoulder of Highway 46 East. All individuals involved were transported to local hospitals with moderate to major injuries.
CHP reported that alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors in the collision. The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol – Templeton Area office.
