City library book group reads, ‘Daisy Jones and the Six’
– The Paso Robles City Library will host its monthly book group on Aug. 20 beginning at 5:30 p.m. for an in-person discussion of Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
The title is available in regular and large print and as a book on CD through the Black Gold Library System. It is also available as an eBook and audiobook using the library’s Libby digital platform.
Daisy Jones and the Six tells the story of one of the biggest bands of the 1970s and the mystery behind their breakup at the height of their popularity. Daisy is a young woman coming of age in Los Angeles in the late 1960s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, spending time with rock stars, and dreaming of performing at the Whisky a Go Go. By the time she turns 20, her voice gains attention, and her beauty inspires extreme devotion.
At the same time, The Six, a band led by Billy Dunne, is gaining notice. On the eve of their first tour, Dunne’s girlfriend, Camila, learns she is pregnant. Facing the pressures of impending fatherhood and fame, Dunne begins to act recklessly on the road. Daisy and Dunne cross paths when a producer decides that pairing the two could lead to even greater success. The results become legendary, and the making of that legend is captured in the book, which is written as an oral history.
Author Taylor Jenkins Reid presents the story in a distinctive voice, capturing the place and time while exploring the dynamics that drove the band’s rise and fall.
Participants are asked to register each family member individually. The program is open to ages 16 and older. To register, click here.
