– The San Luis Obispo County Republican Party has announced Shannon Kessler as its candidate for California State Assembly District 30 in the 2026 election. She will challenge incumbent Dawn Addis.
Kessler is a former athlete, mother, small business owner, and advocate on parental rights and participation in school governance. She is the founder of Save Girls’ Sports Central Coast, which opposes the inclusion of biological males in female sports, locker rooms, and restrooms. She has spoken at local and state school board meetings and produces social media content on the topic.
She also founded Culture Impact, a grassroots organization that offers Constitution classes and encourages civic engagement, including voting, running for office, and speaking at public meetings.

Kessler currently serves on the San Luis Obispo County Republican Central Committee and is active with the Pismo Coast Association of Realtors’ Local Government Relations and MLS committees. She holds a certificate from Pepperdine School of Public Policy, is a licensed real estate broker, and is co-owner of Kessler Construction, a family business.
In her campaign announcement, Kessler said she is running to address housing affordability, coastal development, business regulations, and school choice. Her stated priorities include supporting homeownership for local residents, opposing offshore wind farms and battery storage projects, reducing regulations for businesses, and expanding parental choice in education.
“I am not a career politician — I am a mother, business owner, and member of a sixth-generation California family who is ready to serve,” Kessler said. “This campaign isn’t about me — it’s about restoring common sense and protecting the future for all Californians.”
Kessler and her husband have been married for 37 years and have adult children. They live on the Central Coast, where they enjoy surfing and hiking.
California’s Assembly District 30 includes portions of San Luis Obispo, Monterey, and Santa Cruz counties.
