Cambria Film Festival to present Hispanic Heritage films and art
– The Cambria Film Festival will host “Voices Through Time,” a special event celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, on Sept. 6 at the Cambria Center for the Arts.
The one-night program will feature four short films exploring themes of migration, identity, dignity, and cultural memory. Screenings include “El Ojo Comienza En La Mano (The Eye Begins in the Hand),” a tribute to California’s farmworker communities through the art of Ruben A. Sanchez; “The Unbroken Sky,” based on the writings of Francisco Jiménez, which follows an undocumented teen’s journey through hardship and education in 1950s California; “Edel Rodriguez: Freedom is a Verb,” a portrait of the Cuban-American artist whose work speaks to freedom and exile; and “Límite,” a coming-of-age story set in Tijuana inspired by real events.
The event will include a complimentary wine tasting by Latina winemaker Nancy Ulloa of Ulloa Cellars and a folklórico performance by Cambria Ballet Folklorico Tradiciones de Mi Tierra.
A post-screening discussion moderated by KCBX’s David Figueroa will feature filmmaker Yehuda Sharim, artist Ruben A. Sanchez and producers from “The Unbroken Sky.” An accompanying art exhibit of Sanchez’s work will be on display in the Cambria Center for the Arts Studio Gallery through Sept. 26.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and films begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at www.cambiafilmfestival.com/special-events.
