Locally produced film Hidden Creek returns to Park Cinemas
Limited showing runs Sept. 19–25 in Paso Robles
– The locally produced feature film Hidden Creek will screen for one week at Park Cinemas in Paso Robles from Sept. 19 to Sept. 25. The engagement will be the last opportunity for San Luis Obispo County audiences to see the film in theaters.
Hidden Creek has been featured on the film festival circuit, winning the Jury Award for Best Central Coast Feature Film at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival. It has also screened at the Los Angeles Film Festival, LA Lift-Off Film Festival, Los Angeles IFS Film Festival, International Indie Film & Screenplay Festival, and the Santa Monica Film Festival.
Following its SLO Film Fest win, the film ran for two weeks at the Palm Theatre. At Park Cinemas, a previously sold-out benefit screening raised funds for CAPSLO Adult Daycare, the Alzheimer’s Association, and the San Luis Obispo County Cattlemen’s Association. The film also premiered last year with a sold-out 450-seat screening at Hearst Castle Theatre.
Set in northern San Luis Obispo County, the story follows Jimmy, an elderly widowed rancher who fears he is losing both his land and his mind. As he suspects his children may be accelerating his decline to sell the family ranch, Jimmy must confront issues of memory, legacy, and trust.
The film was written by Steve Brody, Ph.D., a local clinical psychologist and screenwriter. It was produced by Coast Union High School alumni Julian Mercado Avila and Darien Jewel.
“Hidden Creek shares the realistic, emotional journey of dementia. It expertly covers the confusion, compassion, humor and loss for families, friends and those dealing with the disease,” said Laura DeLoye, program and education manager for the Alzheimer’s Association of the California Central Coast.
Producer and co-director Julian Mercado Avila said the creative team is grateful for the community’s support.
“We are deeply honored by the praise and emotional resonance this film has found in so many hearts. We hope audiences will join us once more, whether for the first time or the fifth, to experience our beautiful rolling hills on the big screen and to share this story in a theater, the way it was meant to be seen: together,” Mercado Avila said.
