Cuesta College Foundation awards record amount of scholarships to students
Foundation awards total $777,640 in scholarships this year
– The Cuesta College Foundation awarded $777,640 in scholarships for the 2025-26 academic year, the largest scholarship total in the foundation’s history.
The milestone was recognized at the foundation’s annual Scholarship Reception on Friday, Sept. 5, at Cuesta College’s San Luis Obispo campus, where donors, students, and community members gathered.
In addition to scholarships, the foundation provides more than $600,000 in supplementary support, including the Cuesta Promise, student awards, and emergency grants. The total student support surpasses $1.4 million in direct aid this year.
“This record-breaking year reflects the remarkable generosity of our donors and the determination of our students,” said Katie Osman, executive director of the Cuesta College Foundation. “At a time when the cost of living is high and basic needs are pressing, every scholarship, award, and grant serves as a powerful reminder that we believe in our students. We’re not just funding education; we’re funding futures and investing in a stronger, more hopeful community.”
The reception featured stories from scholarship recipients. Leonardo, a first-generation college student, discovered a passion for chemistry and aspires to earn a bachelor’s degree and doctorate with the goal of teaching at the college level.
Samantha, a single mother and nursing student, shared her journey of perseverance. After not being accepted into nursing school on her first attempt, she improved her grades, gained hands-on healthcare experience, and ultimately secured a spot in the college’s nursing program. She is on track to graduate in 2026 while raising her young daughter.
“Samantha’s story shows us what’s possible when you refuse to give up on your dreams,” said Beth Johnson, associate dean of nursing and allied health.
The Cuesta College Foundation supports student success through scholarships, emergency aid, and educational programs with contributions from individual donors, local businesses, and community partners.
