City seeks applicants for Martin Luther King Jr. event group
Deadline to apply is Oct. 3
– The City of Paso Robles is inviting residents to apply for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday event working group to help plan the 2026 community celebration scheduled for Jan. 20.
The nine-member volunteer group will work with city staff to organize the annual event, which will focus on honoring King’s legacy through a day of service.
Paso Robles has hosted Martin Luther King Jr. Day events since 1990. In 1994, President Bill Clinton designated King’s birthday as a National Day of Service, the only federal holiday with that designation. The city said the 2026 event will reflect on King’s words, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?”
Community members who join the working group will assist with planning, outreach and promotion, fundraising, and coordination of a service project. The kickoff meeting is scheduled for Oct. 14 at Centennial Park, 600 Nickerson Drive. The group will continue to meet the first and third Mondays of each month from 5 to 6 p.m. at Centennial Park.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old. No prior experience is required. Applications are available online at the City of Paso Robles website or at the Centennial Park registration desk, open Monday through Thursday from noon to 5 p.m. The deadline to apply is Oct. 3, 2025, at 5 p.m.
Completed applications may be submitted by email to recservices@prcity.com, delivered to the Centennial Park registration desk, or mailed to Recreation Services, c/o MLK Working Group, 600 Nickerson Drive, Paso Robles, CA 93446.
