Dancers bring holiday tradition back to Spanos Theatre
Event features 70 local dancers, guest artists
– The North County Dance & Performing Arts Foundation will present its 29th annual production of The Nutcracker: A Storybook Ballet at the Spanos Theatre at Cal Poly for three performances on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m., Dec. 6 at 5 p.m., and Dec. 7 at 2 p.m.
The production features dancers from across San Luis Obispo County in a retelling of Clara’s journey through the Land of Sweets, with custom-made costumes, original choreography, and Tchaikovsky’s score.
Under the artistic direction of Cheryle Armstrong and Rachel Connerton, the show includes a cast of 70 local performers and guest artists.
“The Nutcracker has become more than just a show for our dancers, it’s a tradition that connects generations,” said Armstrong, NCDPAF founder. “It’s where young performers discover their love for the stage, where families make memories, and where our community comes together to celebrate the magic of the arts.”
Proceeds from the performances benefit the North County Dance & Performing Arts Foundation’s programs, including scholarships, community outreach, and performing arts education.
