Hope’s Village to present tiny homes proposal at city council meeting

Proposal seeks city support for local homelessness solution

    – Hope’s Village of San Luis Obispo will bring a proposal for a sustainable community of tiny houses on wheels before the Paso Robles City Council on Oct. 21 at 6 p.m.

The group plans to create housing for women who are currently living in the Salinas Riverbed. According to Hope’s Village founder Becky Jorgeson, the nonprofit has spent more than a decade seeking land in San Luis Obispo County for the project but has been told “no land [is] available.”

“There are 300 people on the wait list at ECHO and 400 people waiting to get into Prado in SLO,” Jorgeson said. “We can help.”

Residents are invited to attend the meeting at Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. at Centennial Park to provide public comment on the proposal.

“When we get enough people together, city hall will give consideration to our plea for help,” Jorgeson said. “We are one of the richest communities in the nation and we can do so much better by our unhoused residents. This is their home, and they aren’t going away.”
