Atascadero officer revives infant during emergency call

Officer Alan Hurst arrived about two minutes after being dispatched

    – A 10-day-old infant was revived by an Atascadero Police Department officer after being found not breathing Wednesday evening.

Police said they received a call around 5:30 p.m. Oct. 22 reporting that an infant was not breathing at a home in the 8300 block of Santa Ynez Avenue. Dispatchers sent police, fire, and ambulance crews to the scene while providing the parents with life-saving instructions over the phone.

Officer Alan Hurst arrived about two minutes after being dispatched. He found the infant not breathing and discolored, and immediately began life-saving efforts. Police said the baby started breathing on their own and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

The department recognized the dispatch team, Officer Hurst, and local emergency service partners for their quick response and coordination.
