City reminds Paso Robles residents to keep storm drains clear this fall

City council receives update on Highway 46 East overpass project

    – The City of Paso Robles is asking residents to help prevent flooding by keeping storm drains clear of leaves and debris this fall. City officials say keeping drains clean helps water flow during rainstorms, protects property, and keeps streets safe.

Residents are encouraged to sweep or mow fallen leaves regularly to clear sidewalks, driveways, and yards. Mowing leaves into mulch can reduce cleanup and provide natural nutrients to lawns.

The city asks residents to avoid raking leaves into the street, where they can clog storm drains. Instead, residents should use their green waste bins for curbside pickup or compost leaves as an alternative.

The city also encourages neighbors and local businesses to work together to keep storm drains clear. Residents are advised to check the city’s street sweeping schedule for their area, because leaves in the street can block sweeping operations.

City officials say that taking a few minutes to clear leaves from around the home can reduce flooding risks, keep streets safe, and protect local waterways during the rainy season.
