City council receives update on Highway 46 East overpass project

    – The Paso Robles City Council met Tuesday evening for its regular meeting at its temporary location in Centennial Park.

Schedule pulled from consent calendar for further discussion

The council approved items one through three and five through nine on the consent calendar. Item four — the proposed 2026 City Council meeting schedule — was pulled for later discussion.

Public hearing on updating city building standards to align with the 2025 California Building Standards Code

During the only public hearing of the night, the council held a second reading and adopted Ordinance No. 1164, updating city building standards to align with the 2025 California Building Standards Code.

During the discussion portion, Mayor John Hamon noted that the changes are largely state-mandated, but said that builders would still retain some local flexibility. Councilmember Steve Gregory made the motion to approve the new standards, Councilmember Fred Strong seconded it, and Hamon and Councilwoman Kris Beal voted yes. Councilmember Chris Bausch was the sole “no” vote. The standards were approved 4-1.

Council approves reserving “General Plan surplus density units” for the proposed Ardmore Townhouse project

Under discussion items, the council unanimously approved reserving General Plan surplus density units for the proposed “Ardmore Townhouses,” a mixed-use residential project at 2930 Union Road, thereby allowing the development to proceed through the review process.

    Schedule approved after discussion

Returning to the pulled fourth item from the consent calendar, the council discussed and unanimously approved the 2026 meeting schedule. Staff noted that the July 7 meeting should be marked as cancelled. Members considered cancelling the November meeting (which falls on Election Night) but decided against it.

The schedule, with the July 7 cancellation, was approved unanimously.
