ECHO hosts annual Turkey Trot at Atascadero Lake Park

Event raises funds to support shelter and housing programs

El Camino Homeless Organization will host its seventh annual Turkey Trot 5K and Fun Run on Thanksgiving morning at Atascadero Lake Park. The event begins Nov. 27 with registration at 8:30 a.m.

The Turkey Trot invites community members of all ages to participate. The suggested donation is $20 per person and can be made online at echoshelter.org or in person on the day of the event. All proceeds support El Camino Homeless Organization’s programs that provide food, shelter, and services to help individuals and families find housing stability.

The B Loved Foundation will again match all donations, including ticket purchases, doubling the impact of community support. “The Turkey Trot isn’t just a run—it’s a reminder of what community looks like when we come together,” said Wendy Lewis, CEO of El Camino Homeless Organization. “Every step taken that morning helps someone take their next step toward stability, hope, and home.”

Trophies will be awarded to the first- and second-place finishers in the men’s, women’s, and under-18 categories. Additional awards will be given for best individual, group, and animal Thanksgiving costumes.

The organization is also seeking volunteers this holiday season to help with meal service, donation organization, and holiday events at its Atascadero and Paso Robles campuses.

El Camino Homeless Organization, founded in 2001, operates a 60-bed shelter in Atascadero and a 70-bed shelter in Paso Robles. Its programs include a daily community dinner and a shower program for individuals and families throughout San Luis Obispo County.
