Rain does not stop Atascadero Colony Days parade

Colony Days commemorates town’s early history

    – Atascadero celebrated its 52nd Colony Days event and 51st parade on Saturday. A steady rain discouraged many from attending but did not dampen the spirits of those who participated in this year’s parade.

Colony Days commemorates the founding of Atascadero, which E.G. Lewis established as a planned utopian community in the early 1900s. The event highlights the town’s early history and the ideals promoted during its formation.

The theme this year was “Road to Atascadero Butterfly Drive,” and butterflies “flew” down El Camino Real despite the rainfall.

Horses, fire trucks, youth football teams, cheerleaders, and Supervisors John Peschong and Heather Moreno took part in the parade despite the precipitation.

Many spectators turned out with pop-ups to protect themselves from the rain. Others opened umbrellas and watched the event.

Colony Days 2025 will be long remembered by those who showed up and endured the steady rain.
