Nonprofit seeks donations to expand services for local Latina women

Mujeres de Acción highlights growing needs on Giving Tuesday

    – Mujeres de Acción invited Central Coast residents to become monthly donors on Giving Tuesday to support programs for Latina women and families in San Luis Obispo County.

In 2025, the group provided direct support to hundreds of families. The organization distributed more than 467 food baskets, assisted with diapers and baby wipes, and offered monthly bilingual workshops intended to build connections across language and culture. It also expanded its resource navigation services, helping families access housing, child care, and healthcare.

The 11th Annual Breast Cancer Gala was a major event during the year. The gathering brought community members together to honor survivors, raise awareness for early detection, and recognize those who have died from the disease.

The organization reported that it continues to act as a connector for local families. One example included assisting a mother of three with her utility bill to ensure her home remained lit during a difficult period.

“These are the stories that keep us going,” said Yessenia Echevarria, executive director of Mujeres de Acción. “And they are made possible by the generosity of our community.”

As living costs increase across the Central Coast, Mujeres de Acción plans to expand outreach in 2026 and continue supporting events such as the Hispanic Heritage Festival and Children’s Day Celebration. The group said these programs recognize culture, support families, and encourage community involvement.

The organization encourages the public to sign up as monthly donors. It stated that ongoing contributions help it respond to community needs, maintain services, and expand programs. More information is available at www.mujeresdeaccion.org.
