Driver dies after truck crashes into vehicle stopped at a red light
Driver arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter
– A 63-year-old Paso Robles man died early Thursday after a box truck struck his vehicle from behind at the intersection of Golden Hill Road and State Route 46, according to police.
Officers and paramedics responded at about 5:30 a.m. to a collision involving a white four-door Lexus and a 2017 green and white Freightliner box truck.
Police said the Lexus had been stopped at a red light on westbound State Route 46 at Golden Hill Road when the Freightliner, which was also traveling westbound, approached the intersection and failed to slow down. The truck struck the Lexus from behind, killing the driver.
The driver of the Freightliner, 25-year-old Gean Marco HuamanCastro of Bakersfield, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail.
Police said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
