    – Paso Robles High School senior Sky Dawsey earned second place at the Central Coast Chopped Classic, a regional culinary competition showcasing student chefs from across San Luis Obispo County.

Dawsey prepared a roasted butternut squash soup with panko-crusted chicken stuffed with roasted red peppers, spinach, and provolone. Contestants had one hour to plan, cook, and plate a complete meal, and while most teams worked in groups of three to five, Dawsey competed alone and completed every element on her own.

The performance highlighted the strength of Paso Robles High School’s Culinary Arts Career Technical Education program. Through the program, students gain hands-on experience that combines technical skills with real-world problem-solving.

Across Paso Robles Joint Unified School District, more than a dozen Career Technical Education pathways, including Agriculture, Health Science, Digital Media and Residential and Commercial Construction, offer training aligned with industry standards.

The Central Coast Chopped Classic, held at Arroyo Grande High School, challenged students to demonstrate technique, creativity, and composure in a timed format modeled after the television series, Chopped. Dawsey’s solo second-place finish marked a notable achievement for the Paso Robles High School culinary team.
