Vehicle fire injures two on Highway 41
Emergency crews respond to crash in northern San Luis Obispo County
– Two people were injured after a vehicle crashed and caught fire on Highway 41 in northern San Luis Obispo County on Friday, temporarily closing the roadway in both directions, according to reports.
Officers received an initial report at about 12:40 p.m. of a vehicle that had overturned and caught fire on Highway 41 north of the Cholame Y. Although the vehicle came to rest off the roadway, thick black smoke from the fire reduced visibility for drivers, prompting authorities to close the highway in both directions.
Multiple fire engines and an aerial attack helicopter were dispatched to the scene at about 12:46 p.m. Two occupants of the vehicle sustained minor and moderate injuries. Both patients were transported to the hospital, according to reports.
As of about 1:10 p.m., the fire was being knocked down by Cal Fire, reports say.
