Paso Robles Sunrise Rotary awards vocational scholarships
Two local apprentices receive scholarships supporting vocational training
– Paso Robles Sunrise Rotary awarded two $500 vocational scholarships to members of the UA 403 Plumbers, Pipefitters, and HVACR to support their vocational training.
Apprentices Jacob McAvoy and Devin Richards received the scholarships. Sally Coons, chairman of the Scholarship Committee, said the organization recently expanded its scholarship offerings.
“We’ve expanded our scholarship offerings to include both vocational and college. We’re excited to be partnering with the UA 403 Plumbers, Pipefitters, and HVACR in San Luis Obispo. These careers are very important to our economy,” Coons said.
The training facility in San Luis Obispo has provided instruction for pipefitters, plumbers, pipe welders, and heating and refrigeration trades in San Luis Obispo County since the 1940s. Apprentices currently work on dozens of local projects throughout the county.
The State Division of Apprenticeship Standards oversees the program to ensure compliance with requirements and regulations established under state-approved standards.
In addition to its partnership with the trade organization, Paso Robles Sunrise Rotary has established an endowment with Cal Poly to fund viticulture scholarships for students from the North County.
Paso Robles Sunrise Rotary meets twice a month on the second and fourth Tuesday mornings at 7 a.m. at Angela’s Pastries, 1401 Park St. The organization is seeking new members. More information is available by attending a meeting or visiting portal.clubrunner.ca/2172.
