    William Edis Jr. Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 15, 2026.

    – William Arthur Edis Jr. (Art) was born to Lucille and William Arthur Edis Sr. on March 8, 1931, in the “City by the Bay”, San Francisco (always a 49ers fan), and raised in San Jose along with his sister Sherle. He graduated from Lincoln High School, then went on to receive his Bachelor of Science from San Jose State, concluding his education at the University of California, Berkeley, earning a Master of Public Health degree. He was an active member of Delta Epsilon Fraternity, where he made many lifelong friends.

Art served proudly in the United States Navy as a medic during the Korean War, stationed at Oak Knoll Navel Hospital. He moved to Bakersfield in 1958 and worked for the Kern County Department of Public Health doing a number of unsavory jobs, and Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals before going out on his own opening Kern Surgical Supply, which he owned and operated for 35 years. After selling his business, he retired to the coastal community of Cambria, where he would look out at the ocean and say “it doesn’t get better than this.”

Art loved to play tennis and was honored to serve as a past president of both the Bakersfield Racquet Club and the Cambria Tennis Club where he stated “he won a few and lost a few.”

Art is survived by his wife of 71 years, Carolyn, daughters Lauren (Jim), Kathryn (Kriss), five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Military Honors will be presented at Veteran’s Cemetery – Bakersfield, on March 6th at 12:30

Cemetery Address: 30338 E Bear Mountain Blvd, Arvin, CA
