County elections office invites students to design voting stickers

Winners to be announced in April

    – San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder and Elections Office announced it is inviting local students to submit original artwork for the county’s 2026 “I Voted” sticker design contest.

The contest is open to San Luis Obispo County students in grades 3 through 12 and begins Jan. 27 in recognition of Help America Vote Day, a nationwide effort focused on civic engagement and volunteerism. Entries will be accepted from Jan. 27 through March 10.

The sticker design contest was first held locally in the fall of 2024 and celebrates participation in democracy by allowing students to design a custom “I Voted,” “Yo voté,” or “Future Voter” sticker. Winning designs will be printed and distributed at polling locations throughout the county during the 2026 election cycle and featured on the Clerk-Recorder’s website and outreach materials. Previous winners attended Georgia Brown Elementary, Old Mission School, and San Luis Obispo High School.

“We are excited to see how our next generation of voters expresses what civic engagement means to them,” said County Clerk-Recorder Elaina Cano. “This contest is a fun way to encourage community involvement and highlight the creativity of our students.”

The contest includes two age divisions, one for grades 3 through 6 and another for grades 7 through 12. Students may submit entries in person, by mail, or by email.

Designs must include the words “I Voted,” “Yo voté,” or “Future Voter,” be original artwork without copyrighted materials, and fit within a circular format.

Entries will be evaluated by a panel of local community leaders and elections staff. Winners in each age division will be announced in April and recognized for their contribution to civic engagement.

Complete rules, an entry form, and submission guidelines are available at www.slovote.gov.
