Prescribed burns planned at Morro Bay, Montaña de Oro state parks
– California State Parks plans to conduct prescribed burning of brush piles at Morro Bay State Park and Montaña de Oro State Park in San Luis Obispo County beginning Monday, Feb. 2.
The prescribed burns are scheduled to continue through Friday, Feb. 20. Actual burn days will take place Monday through Wednesday and will be determined by weather conditions and permit requirements. Ignitions may begin as early as 7 a.m., with fire activity curtailed by approximately 5 p.m.
At Morro Bay State Park, crews will burn approximately 100 brush piles on Black Hill, located between Quintana Road, Quinn Court, and the South Bay Trail.
At Montaña de Oro State Park, crews will burn approximately 200 brush piles along the Bloody Nose Trail on the east side of Pecho Valley Road and approximately 100 brush piles along the Canopy Trail on the west side of Pecho Valley Road.
The prescribed burning is intended to reduce fuel loads and fire hazards, enhance the health of native plant communities, and aid in the control of non-native, weedy species.
California State Parks is conducting the operation in cooperation with Cal Fire and the Air Pollution Control District.
