Cal Fire plans prescribed burn east of Santa Margarita

    prescribed burn SLO county

Cal Fire San Luis Obispo will conduct a prescribed burn on private land in eastern San Luis Obispo County as part of its ongoing Vegetation Management Program, in collaboration with private landowners, the San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District, and the San Luis Obispo County Community Fire Safe Council.

The prescribed burn will cover approximately 17 acres and is planned for one day on Thursday, Feb. 5, beginning around 10 a.m., weather permitting. The burn will take place on private lands about 15 minutes east of Santa Margarita, near the intersection of Pozo Road and Rinconada Road.

The operation is intended to reduce the buildup of flammable vegetation that contributes to catastrophic wildfires and to support long-term ecological health by promoting native species and improving biodiversity. Fire personnel will be on site throughout the operation, and precautions will be taken to ensure the burn is conducted safely under favorable weather conditions.

Smoke may be visible in surrounding areas. Residents are advised not to report the fire unless there is an emergency not related to the prescribed burn. Cal Fire said the operation reflects its continued focus on reducing wildfire risk through partnerships, community collaboration, and environmentally responsible land stewardship.
