San Bernardino rescue seeking new start
– The Adoptable Pet of the Week this week is Gary, a 5-year-old, 12-pound Chartreux mix available for adoption through North County Paws Cause in Paso Robles.
Gary was found running loose in San Bernardino. A local rescuer trapped him, had him neutered, and placed him in a managed colony. The rescuer later determined Gary was friendly and suited for indoor life. After searching for a placement, the rescuer transported him to North County Paws Cause for adoption.
Gary is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and recently received a clean bill of health from a veterinarian. He tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, commonly known as FIV, but has no related complications. FIV affects a cat’s immune system. It is not transmissible to humans or dogs and spreads between cats only through deep bite wounds, not through shared food bowls, bedding, or grooming.
According to the rescue, Gary seeks attention and enjoys sitting on laps and being held. He currently lives indoors with other cats and is reported to behave well. The organization said he appears indifferent toward dogs.
North County Paws Cause recommends placement in a home without other cats, with other FIV-positive cats, or with calm, vaccinated indoor cats.
