Bearcats soccer loses a close playoff game to Mendota
Paso Robles ends an excellent season with a record of 15-8
– The Paso Robles High School Boys Soccer Team led most of the playoff game Saturday night, but ultimately lost on penalty kicks. Their 1-0 lead was erased late in the second half. The 1-1 tie continued through two ten-minute overtime periods. Ultimately, the game was decided by penalty kicks. That contest came down to the final kick. Tied 2-2 on penalty kicks, Mendota senior forward Rafael Ruiz kicked the ball in the lower right corner of the goal, and that won the game for his team.
In the first half, sophomore Jaime Cervantes scored a goal to give Paso Robles the early lead. Junior Emiliano Martinez Carmona got the assist on that goal. The Bearcats had several great shots on goal, but only that one goal counted.
The penalty kick phase was close. Both goalies blocked shots, but the final shot taken was decisive. With each team successful on two penalty kicks, the final Mendota attempt scored. That decided the game.
So, Paso Robles ends an excellent season with a record of 15-8. Mendota advances in the playoffs with an overall record of 11-12-5.
