Former Bearcat Carson Turnquist wins again for Mustangs

– Former Bearcat Carson Turnquist recorded his second win Sunday as a pitcher for Cal Poly. Carson came into the game in the second inning with Cal Poly trailing Cal State Bakersfield 3-0. Turnquist pitched five complete innings. He allowed only one hit and no runs. He struck out seven CSUB Roadrunners. The Mustangs beat the Roadrunners 6-3.
It’s the second week in a row that Carson came into the game in the second inning after the Mustang starter gave up multiple hits. Last weekend, it occurred in Hawaii. Each time Carson stifled the opposing team and picked up the win. He threw 98 pitches total.
Turnquist is now 2-0 with the Mustangs. His ERA is 1.40, which is one of the best on the team.
Carson graduated from Paso Robles High School and pitched one year at Oklahoma. After undergoing Tommy John surgery, he resumed his college career at Cal Poly.
Carson is expected to pitch next Sunday or Monday when Cal Poly hosts UC Davis for a three-game series beginning Saturday. Over the past weekend, the UC Davis Aggies (9-9) took two out of three from #2 ranked UC Santa Barbara (14-4.)
The Mustangs are undefeated in the Big West (6-0) after sweeping Hawaii and Cal State Bakersfield. They host UC Davis, then travel to UC Riverside for a three-game series. The Mustangs host UC Santa Barbara in early April.
