San Luis Obispo farmers market ranks in USA Today top 10
Thursday night market ranks No. 9 nationwide
– Downtown San Luis Obispo’s Thursday Night Farmers’ Market ranked No. 9 in USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Farmers Market.
The market was nominated by an expert panel from more than 8,600 registered farmers’ markets across the United States and then selected through a public vote. It was one of two California markets included in the top 10.
“Known as one of California’s best outdoor markets, the SLO Thursday extravaganza is designed to make locals come back for more every week, and tourists vow to return again soon,” the article states.
The Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market takes place each Thursday at 6 p.m. along Higuera Street in downtown San Luis Obispo. The event spans five blocks and features vendors offering produce, prepared food, artisan goods, barbecue, and live entertainment.
More than 100 vendors participate each week, including more than 20 certified farm stands. The market operates year-round and draws thousands of local residents and visitors each week.
The Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market has been held for more than 40 years and is one of several public programs operated by Downtown SLO, a nonprofit organization.
