Themed event features music, costumes, and show-inspired activities
– Creston Village marked Roberta Martin’s 102nd birthday on April 18 with an “I Love Lucy”-themed celebration attended by residents, staff, and guests.
The event featured a 1950s-themed lunch, live musical performances, and activities inspired by the television show. Attendees wore red or polka dots as part of the event’s theme.
The celebration was organized by Life Enrichment Partner Laura McCoy, who portrayed Lucy during the event. Executive Director Adam Bramwell took on the role of Ricky Ricardo.
Volunteers Emma and Thea from Paso Robles High School served popcorn and Moon Pies while attendees watched clips from the show and sang along to “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” “Paper Moon,” and “How Much Is That Doggie in the Window.” The final song included a performance by Bill, who appeared in a dog costume.
The lunch included hot dogs, fries, cream soda, and birthday cake.
Speakers at the event recognized Martin’s life and accomplishments. She was the first person in her family to attend college and the first woman in her family to graduate from that institution. She later worked as a physical education teacher.
“Roberta’s 102nd birthday gave all of us a chance to honor a woman whose life is genuinely worth studying,” said Julie Tacker, the Director of Engagement at Creston Village. “She broke barriers before that was the headline, and she still shows up every day with more energy than most of us can match. Laura and the entire team poured everything into this tribute, and it showed.”
