Senior center to host events for Older Americans Month
Events include wellness fair, workshops, and resource fair
– The Paso Robles Senior Center will mark Older Americans Month in May with a series of programs and events focused on health, wellness, and community resources for older adults.
Established in 1963, Older Americans Month recognizes the contributions of older adults, highlights aging trends, and reaffirms commitments to serving older populations. This year’s theme, “Champion Your Health,” emphasizes prevention, wellness, and personal responsibility as part of healthy aging.
The Paso Robles Senior Center offers programs throughout the year that support these goals, including daily hot lunches through the Meals That Connect program, exercise classes, social groups, weekly bingo, movies, card games, and a no-cost senior farmers’ market in partnership with the Foodbank Coalition of SLO County.
The center will host a Senior Wellness Fair on May 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., presented by the Cuesta College Nursing Program. The event will include booths offering memory evaluations, balance evaluations, information on signs and symptoms of strokes, cooking for one, and healthy living strategies.
An Unbirthday Birthday Party is scheduled for May 19 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., where attendees will celebrate birthdays collectively. The event will include pizza, salad, cupcakes, and live music.
Programming will continue in June with a Container Vegetable Gardening Workshop presented by the UC Master Gardeners of SLO County on June 5 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. A Walk Safely Workshop is scheduled for June 23 from 9:50 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A Resource Fair will take place June 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., providing information on housing, legal aid, senior living, and home care.
