Carson Turnquist quiets UCI

– Former Bearcat Carson Turnquist held UC Irvine to only one hit over five innings Saturday as the Cal Poly Mustangs beat the Anteaters 11-2 in Irvine.
When Turnquist left the game, the Mustangs led 5-0. That’s after the Anteaters beat the Mustangs 11-4 Friday night.
In one of his strongest performances as a Mustang, Turnquist threw 104 pitches over five complete innings. He struck out four and walked four. He allowed one hit, but did not allow a run.
Carson is now 5-1 for the season with an ERA of 3.00. He has struck out 54 hitters in 39 innings pitched.
The Mustangs beat Irvine Sunday afternoon 8-6. Cal Poly broke a 6-6 tie with two runs in the ninth.
The Mustangs play at Santa Clara on Tuesday afternoon. They travel to Cal State Fullerton this weekend. They have only one more series at home this season. They host Long Beach State for a three-game series May 14-16.
Poly leads the Big West with a record of 17-7. They are 27-19 overall.
