Lewis Flamson Junior High to host first-ever career fair
Seventh- and eighth-grade students will meet professionals from multiple industries
– Lewis Flamson Junior High School will host its first-ever Career Fair on May 8, bringing together professionals from across San Luis Obispo County to help students explore career pathways and connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities.
The event will take place on Friday, May 8, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on War Memorial Field at the junior high school. The school’s AVID Team organized the event for seventh- and eighth-grade students.
Professionals representing industries including health care, engineering, law enforcement, public safety, construction, technology, real estate, recreation, and public service will participate. Representatives from San Luis Obispo County Health, Caltrans, the Paso Robles Police Department, the Paso Robles Fire Department, Twin Cities Community Hospital, Apple, regional construction and welding trades, and local government agencies are expected to attend.
Students will have the opportunity to speak directly with professionals about career paths, education and training requirements, day-to-day responsibilities, and skills needed in different industries.
The event reflects the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District’s effort to connect schools, families, businesses, local professionals, and community partners to help students prepare for opportunities beyond the classroom.
“Career exploration at the junior high level is incredibly valuable because it helps students begin connecting their interests and strengths to future possibilities,” said Alexandra Huggins, Lewis Flamson Junior High School AVID coordinator and event organizer. “We want students to leave this event inspired, informed, and excited about the many opportunities available to them.”
Local professionals volunteered to participate in the event, and Agape Restaurant donated lunch for guest speakers.
School leaders said they hope the Career Fair becomes an ongoing tradition that strengthens connections between students, schools, and the community while helping students envision future goals.
The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District serves more than 6,400 students across northern San Luis Obispo County. The district said it focuses on integrity, accountability, collaboration, innovation, compassion, and belonging while providing a safe and supportive learning environment for students.
