Local product designer launches new Paso Robles wine country app
– A San Luis Obispo-based product designer has launched a free iOS app designed to help visitors navigate Paso Robles wine country.
Paso Wineries was created by Aidan Simpson, founder of pasorobleswineries.net. The app includes information on more than 270 wineries across Paso Robles’ 11 American Viticultural Areas and allows users to build itineraries organized by region.
According to Simpson, the app was developed to address challenges visitors face when planning trips across the region’s wineries, which are spread throughout 600,000 acres.
The app groups wineries geographically to create daily routes and limits itineraries to four stops per day. It also recommends nearby wineries and allows users to access information offline in areas without cell service.
Simpson said the app aims to improve winery discovery for visitors while helping smaller wineries gain visibility alongside larger, more established wineries.
The app was developed using SwiftUI and MapKit. Simpson is a staff product designer at Boulevard and previously worked at Google and Faire. He also runs Komati Media Co. LLC, the company behind pasorobleswineries.net, a website focused on Paso Robles wine tourism.
According to the company, the app combines local knowledge with technology focused on wine tourism and navigation throughout Paso Robles wine country.
