Sinkhole forces closure of Niblick and Creston intersection
Road closures remain in effect until further notice
– A sinkhole prompted the full closure of the intersection of Niblick Road and Creston Road on Friday after city staff was notified of the roadway failure at approximately 9:35 a.m, according to a press release from the City of Paso Robles.
City crews responded immediately to assess the situation and begin repair work.
Based on initial assessments, crews anticipate that evaluating the extent of the damage and completing necessary repairs could take up to 12 hours. The cause of the sinkhole remains under investigation.
The intersection has been closed to all traffic until further notice because of the size and location of a damaged water line beneath the roadway and to provide crews with safe and unrestricted access to the work area.
Road closures are in effect on Niblick Road at Creston Road in all directions, Creston Road at Niblick Road in all directions, and Sherwood Road at the Niblick Road and Creston Road intersection in all directions.
Traffic control measures are in place, and motorists are advised to follow posted signs and directions from traffic control personnel. Travelers are encouraged to use alternate routes and avoid the area while repairs are underway.
Nearby businesses may experience impacts because of the road closures. The city said efforts are being made to maintain access where possible and minimize disruption.
The city will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as additional information becomes available or if traffic control measures change.
