Deputies seize ‘homemade incendiary devices’ after two-hour standoff
– San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a San Luis Obispo man Friday morning after a barricade incident at a residence in the 4700 block of Los Osos Valley Road, according to a press release.
Members of the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail served a search warrant at approximately 5 a.m. for a subject with a felony arrest warrant.
Authorities identified the subject as Benjamin Lian Reynoso, 43, of San Luis Obispo. Reynoso was wanted for felony vandalism, violating a domestic violence restraining order, and obstruction of justice. Authorities said the charges stemmed from a prior incident that occurred the previous week. Reynoso had also made prior statements threatening law enforcement and area residents.
When deputies arrived, Reynoso refused to exit the residence despite numerous announcements. Authorities said no one else was inside the home at the time.
Members of the Sheriff’s Crisis Negotiation Team attempted to contact Reynoso, but he refused to come out and made threats toward sheriff’s personnel at the scene.
Authorities used several methods, including chemical agents, in an effort to get Reynoso to leave the residence. After approximately two hours, Reynoso exited the home, and deputies took him into custody without incident.
During a search of the residence, detectives discovered several homemade incendiary devices.
The San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT team assisted during the incident by providing a specialized vehicle used in Reynoso’s apprehension.
