Paso Robles High School Athletics recognized a coach, volunteers, and community supporters during the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday evening.

Paso Robles High School Principal and Athletic Director Mike Susank presented several annual awards honoring individuals for their contributions to Bearcat Athletics and student-athletes.

The Coach of the Year award, selected annually by varsity head coaches across the athletic department, was presented to Codie Wilshusen.

Wilshusen serves as head coach of Sideline Cheer, Competitive Cheer, and Track & Field. Susank said her work spans three athletic seasons and includes developing student-athletes both on and off the field. This marks the second consecutive year she has been nominated for the award.

The Community Bearcat of the Year award was presented to Calvin Thompson for his support of Paso Robles High School Athletics.

Thompson serves as head barbecue coordinator for the Bearcat Boosters at Friday night football games and Bearcat barbecue fundraising events throughout the year. Susank said Thompson’s volunteer efforts have helped strengthen the community surrounding Bearcat Athletics.

Thompson also serves as president of the Paso Robles Lions Club. Through a partnership with Paso Robles High School Athletics, the organization recognizes one athlete from each team every season with a Sportsmanship Award. Teammates select recipients based on sportsmanship, leadership, and teamwork.

Susank also presented the annual Bearcat Pride Awards, which are selected by Bearcat coaches and presented to community members who have contributed to the athletic department.

“Successful athletic programs are built on the dedication of coaches, volunteers, community partners, and supporters who invest their time and energy into our student-athletes,” said Susank. “We are grateful for the tremendous contributions of these individuals and proud to recognize the positive impact they have on Bearcat Athletics.”

Paso Robles High School Athletics also congratulated all award recipients and thanked them for their support of student-athletes and the athletic community.
