Firefighters contain Salinas Riverbed vegetation fire
Firefighters stopped forward progress with help from grazed firebreaks
– Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services responded to a vegetation fire in the Salinas Riverbed south of Niblick Bridge on Saturday.
Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 7:55 p.m. and arrived to find an active vegetation fire burning through thick vegetation in the middle of the riverbed.
According to Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services, recently grazed firebreaks allowed crews to safely access the fire and quickly stop its forward progress. Firefighters contained the blaze to 0.40 acres. No injuries were reported.
Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services responded with two fire engines, one ladder truck, one paramedic squad, one fire investigator, and one battalion chief.
Under the city’s automatic aid agreement, Cal Fire and San Luis Obispo County Fire responded with one battalion chief, one dozer, one hand crew, and four fire engines.
A total of 38 firefighters were involved in extinguishing the fire. The Paso Robles Police Department also assisted with the response.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
