Update: Riverside Avenue reopened after water main break
Update posted July 15, 4 p.m.:
City plans permanent water main repairs after the fair
– The City of Paso Robles has restored water service to the California Mid-State Fairgrounds and nearby businesses, and Riverside Avenue has reopened following Tuesday night’s water main break, according to a press release from the city.
City crews isolated the damaged section of the water main and installed temporary bypass lines to restore water service, allowing the California Mid-State Fair to open as scheduled on Wednesday.
After excavating and investigating the break, crews filled and covered the approximately 11-foot excavation on Riverside Avenue just south of 24th Street. Work will continue overnight and on Thursday to install additional temporary lines to provide consistent water service through the end of the fair.
The city said it will continue monitoring the temporary bypass and plans to permanently replace the damaged section of the water main after the fair concludes.
City of Paso Robles Fire, Police, Water, and Streets teams responded to the area around 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, after the water main break and a fallen tree in a fairgrounds parking lot.
Crews worked through Tuesday night and Wednesday to restore service. The city said residences were not affected, and businesses near Riverside Avenue and 24th Street had water restored by midday Wednesday.
Before the water main break was reported, Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services responded to a report of a tree falling onto parked vehicles in a state-owned lot used for California Mid-State Fair staff parking. The lot near Pioneer Park is leased to the city for most of the year but is used by the state during the fair.
Three employees were injured in the incident. Two declined medical treatment, and one was transported to a local hospital and later released. Crews removed the fallen tree limbs, and the parking lot reopened Wednesday morning.
The city said updates on permanent repairs to the Riverside Avenue water main will be posted on its social media channels and at prcity.com.
– City of Paso Robles crews responded Tuesday evening around 11:40 p.m. to a water main break at the intersection of 24th Street and Riverside Avenue.
Riverside Avenue was closed to northbound traffic between 24th Street and Gregory Avenue while crews completed repairs. City officials asked motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes to reduce congestion and allow crews to work safely.
Businesses within the affected area lost water service during the repairs. City officials said the work was expected to take at least 10 hours before water service could be restored, though the estimated restoration time could change depending on conditions encountered during the repair.
