Cambria scarecrow festival returns with new San Simeon display

KISS scarecrows created by Kim Miller and sponsored by Ocean Point Ranch.

    – The annual Cambria Scarecrow Festival will return in October with more than 200 handcrafted creations displayed throughout Cambria and San Simeon.

Visitors can explore the scarecrows throughout Cambria Village, along Moonstone Drive, and on Castillo Drive and Hearst Drive in San Simeon. The festival began in 2009 with 30 scarecrows and has since grown into a month-long event.

The “Fantastical Cove” display will return with mystical creatures, a unicorn, a sea serpent, colorful mushrooms, and gnomes. The returning “Crowchella” display will offer a musical experience featuring members of Kiss, Sunny and Sher, Taylor, and Ozzie, the Prince of Darkness.

Oct. 7, 2025: “Harey Bundini” created by Amy Marshall, sponsored by Paulia & Craig Ufferheide.

A new sleep-themed display called “PJ’s in the Patch” will appear in San Simeon. The display will feature bedtime storytelling, a granny pillow fight, an overnight camping adventure, and more.

“The Scarecrow Festival is truly a labor of love created by an incredible team of volunteers, artists, and community supporters,” said Shelley Holden, president of the Cambria Scarecrow Festival. “Every year we look forward to surprising visitors with new scarecrows and displays while bringing back some of the characters people have grown to love.”

Residents, businesses, and organizations can make tax-deductible donations or adopt a scarecrow through the Friends of the Cambria Scarecrow Festival Program.

Oct. 6, 2025: “Autumn” found leaning against a palm tree in the West Village. This scarecrow was created by Lorraine Beckmann and sponsored by Shell Station.

“The Friends Program gives businesses and individuals a fun and meaningful way to support the festival and become part of the experience,” said Patty Wallace Rixman. “It’s wonderful to see the community come together each year to help keep this tradition growing.”

Donations support the festival and can be made online through the Friends of the Cambria Scarecrow Festival Program.
